pic02This is the line you often hear when you receive a job offer. So what is the works of that and what can be expected to be uncovered?

Leaving a short term job off their resume or neglecting a job and not mentioning that they were fired from the said job, left many people concerned and it will show up in a background check. This is very unlikely, it’s not like your life was being looked into for FBI investigation. Remember that your resume is like a marketing document and you are not required to put anything negative on them, but if asked to write a list of all the position, you should do as asked. Since dishonesty can be a reason for being fired from a job if you don’t. But it will not show up in background checks.

But What Can You Expect?

imagesCriminal Records. This is always the first on the list for employers. What kind of crimes and how far back potential employers can and will consider usually depends of state laws. Put together a document that will explain what exactly happened and should be supported by the evidence. But don’t write up your version of the events that happened, also include court documents. Employers who put too much emphasis on criminal backgrounds are being checked, so expect employers to be considerate and less strict.

Educations. Certificates and Licenses. Don’t lie on about your degrees. Even if you are short in credits, your employer will always find out about it. Library Fines and other things that can cause denial of your claim that you received a degree on that school, so fines and other things that needed to be done must be cleared up before you apply for a job. Public Records includes most Certifications and licenses, they are easy to verify, so you can’t go claiming your driver’s license was not revoked or it hasn’t expired yet. Don’t lie about your degrees or where you got your education. It is very easy to find.

References. Employers can do more that confirm dates of services and titles which many people think this is the only things employers check. Always Work Hard and Don’t Burn Bridges. Employers can search your electronic trail, which they always do. Any Social Media Posts like tweets, comments, picture and videos that is on the internet are easy to find. Always clear your electronic trail before applying.

Military, Medical, Driving Records, Bankruptcies, Drug Testing, and Credit Checks are also found in a complete background check.

So if background check contingency is a part of the job offer, this is what applicants can expect. Starting cleaning up your records if you know you are going to have problems with these sections. Old convictions can also surface in many kind of cases.
